About SFD
The Software Freedom Day is an world wide annual celebration of Free and Open Source Software. It's a public educational event, not only to celebrate the virtues of this kind of software, but also to promote the use and benefits to the attendance.
This event was established on 2004 and celebrated for the first time on August 28th 2004, with the participation of around 70 teams. Since then, it grew in popularity and on 2007, more than 330 teams from about 90 countries celebrated the Software Freedom Day.
That year, the SFD Nicaragua team was honored with the best event award of the Software Freedom Day, with Nepal and Beijing.
About the organizers
The Nicaraguan GNU/Linux User Group (GUL-NIC) is a community of users, developers and free software advocates in Nicaragua.
Our main purpose is to promote the use of free technologies that will serve as a basis for the scientific, social and economical development of our country.
GUL-NIC promotes and organizes local and international free software related events since 2007:
